The online issuance of learning license will not save applicant's time, but also avoid any kind of middlemen who lobby for a speedy procedure by charging a few hundred bucks. The new features are being updated on the website and will go live from the first week of March, according to the RTA officials in Hyderabad. The RTA is already conducting the auction of fancy numbers online successfully. The department has long back introduced online slot-booking service for a learning license and also for permanent driving license. The driving skills of the applicants are tested only at this stage. In Telangana the learner's license is valid for six months before which the holder should obtain a permanent driving license. For this procedure, one has to stand in queues for 2-3 hours at any RTA office as thousands apply for learning license every day.

The candidate has to take a test on traffic signals and directions, which is very fundamental. Since the applicant does not need to demonstrate any driving skills for the initial learning license except for posing for a photograph which is to be pasted on the application, the department is planning to do away with the personal appearance.
